From this quarry Levantina extracts the prized Crema Marfil Coto® marble, which is cream-coloured and of carbonate sedimentary origin, composed of nummulitic limestone petrographically described as biosparite, made up of foraminifera and irregularly distributed calcite veins. The age of the material is approximately 50 Ma (Lower-Middle Eocene). This mining operation is deemed to be the largest open-pit quarry of cream marble in the world.
